Scholarship Exam Details

The Joint CSIR-UGC NET is an eligibility test for JRF and Lectureship in science subjects (Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Mathematical Sciences). Clearing the JRF cut-off awards you the CSIR-JRF fellowship which supports PhD research with a monthly stipend and contingent grant. The exam is conducted as per the CSIR-HRDG / NTA information bulletin

Selection & benefits (key facts):

  • Mode & pattern: Single paper CBT (objective MCQs) — historically contains Part-A (General Aptitude) and Parts B & C (subject knowledge: short & long answer style MCQs in CBT format). Exact pattern and number of questions are in info bulletin. turn0search1

  • Stipend: Revised guideline lists ₹37,000/month for first two years for JRF, upgrade to SRF (higher stipend ~₹35,000+ or as per CSIR rules) after assessment; an annual contingent grant (e.g., ₹20,000) is also normally provided. Check the recent CSIR/HRDG circular for latest rates
