Competitive Exam Details

The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is a premier statutory body operating under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The recruitment for Upper Division Clerk (UDC) and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) is one of the most highly anticipated exams for candidates seeking the prestige and job security of the Central Government, combined with the fast-paced, transparent recruitment process typical of the banking sector. Securing an ESIC job offers incredible benefits: a stellar 7th CPC salary (Level-4 for UDC, Level-1 for MTS), comprehensive health insurance, fixed working hours (no public banking stress), and postings in ESIC regional offices and hospitals across the country.

What makes the ESIC exam uniquely attractive is its syllabus pattern. Even though it is a Central Government administrative job, the examination is conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). Consequently, the interface, negative marking, and question styles strictly follow the Banking pattern (with 5 options), but the difficulty level is generally much lower than an SBI or IBPS PO exam. The UDC recruitment involves a three-phase process: Phase-I (Prelims), Phase-II (Mains), and Phase-III (Computer Skill Test). The MTS recruitment is simpler, involving only Phase-I (Prelims) and Phase-II (Mains).

Phase-I is a 60-minute qualifying test with 100 questions covering General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English. Phase-II is a 120-minute merit-deciding test with 200 questions across the same four subjects. For UDC candidates, the Phase-III Skill Test evaluates practical knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Because there is no personal interview for either post, final selection is strictly based on the objective marks scored in Phase-II. For SSC and Banking aspirants alike, ESIC serves as the perfect hybrid target.

Q3: Is the Phase-I Preliminary exam added to the final merit list?
