Competitive Exam Details

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Regional Rural Banks (IBPS RRB) examination is a phenomenal and highly unique recruitment drive. It recruits for Office Assistants (Clerks) and Officer Scale-I (Probationary Officers) across 43 Regional Rural Banks in India, such as Aryavart Bank, Baroda UP Bank, and Bihar Gramin Bank. This exam is extremely popular among candidates from rural and semi-urban backgrounds because it exclusively offers home-state postings and plays a direct role in elevating India's rural agricultural economy.

What truly separates the IBPS RRB exam from all other banking exams is its absolute structural brilliance: There is no English language section in the Preliminary Examination, and in the Main Examination, candidates are given the choice to attempt either English Language OR Hindi Language. This makes IBPS RRB the holy grail for brilliant candidates who are strong in Mathematics and Reasoning but suffer from a weak English background.

The Preliminary Exam is a composite 45-minute sprint consisting of just two sections: Reasoning (40 Qs) and Quantitative Aptitude (40 Qs). Since there are no sectional timings, time management is entirely in the hands of the candidate. The Main Examination (2 hours) covers Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, Computer Knowledge, and the chosen Language (English/Hindi). For Office Assistants (Clerk), the Mains score determines the final job allocation. For Officer Scale-I (PO), candidates who clear Mains must face a Personal Interview, with the final merit list generated on an 80:20 ratio (Mains:Interview).

Q1: Can I choose Hindi as my language section in the Mains examination?
A1: Yes, absolutely. This is the defining feature of the IBPS RRB exam. In the Main Examination, candidates have a clear choice: they can either attempt the 40-question English Language section OR the 40-question Hindi Language section based entirely on their personal comfort level.
Q2: Will I be posted in a major metropolitan city if I clear this exam?
A2: Generally, no. Regional Rural Banks operate specifically to serve rural and semi-urban areas. While the Head Offices might be in Tier-2 cities, the vast majority of branch postings will be in deep rural or semi-urban villages within the state you applied for.
Q3: Is there an interview for both the PO and Clerk posts?
A3: No. Following government regulations, the interview process has been scrapped for clerical posts. The Office Assistant (Clerk) selection is based 100% on the Main exam score. However, for Officer Scale-I (PO), a personal interview is mandatory.
Q4: What is a "Composite Time" limit in the Prelims exam?
A4: Unlike SBI or standard IBPS exams where you are locked into a subject for 20 minutes, IBPS RRB gives you a single 45-minute timer for the entire 80-question paper. You have the total freedom to switch between Math and Reasoning at any second.

Preliminary Exam (Common for PO & Clerk): Reasoning (40 Qs): Puzzles, Seating Arrangements, Syllogism, Inequality, Blood Relations, Coding-Decoding. Quantitative Aptitude (40 Qs): Data Interpretation, Number Series, Simplification/Approximation, Quadratic Equations, Basic Arithmetic.

English OR Hindi Language (40 Qs): Grammar, Reading Comprehension, Error Spotting in the chosen language. Computer Knowledge (40 Qs): MS Office, Networking, Hardware, Cyber Security
