Competitive Exam Details

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) Assistant Grade-III (AG-III) examination is a monumental recruitment drive that attracts millions of graduates seeking highly secure, well-compensated clerical and lower-management positions in a premier Central Public Sector Undertaking. FCI is the backbone of India's food security, and AG-III personnel are the operational lifeblood of this massive agency. Candidates recruited under the "General" and "Depot" cadres manage the day-to-day administration, vigilance, procurement, field-level inventory management, and dispatch of millions of tonnes of food grains across FCI godowns and district offices pan-India.

Because FCI is geographically vast, the recruitment is strictly zone-wise (North, South, East, West, North-East). Candidates can apply for only one zone and one specific post, ensuring competition is localized but fierce. The examination is conducted entirely online and is divided into two highly structured phases, managed by IBPS. Phase-I is a common screening test for all AG-III posts. It is a 60-minute sprint consisting of 100 questions split into four sections: English Language, Reasoning Ability, Numerical Aptitude, and General Studies (comprising History, Geography, Economy, General Science up to 8th class level, and Current Affairs). Crucially, Phase-I features strict sectional timing (15 minutes per section), requiring intense speed, and serves only to shortlist candidates for Phase-II; its marks do not count toward the final merit list.

Phase-II is the absolute decider. For the most popular posts (AG-III General and Depot), candidates only need to appear for Phase-II Paper-1, which consists of 120 questions to be solved in 90 minutes. However, for specialized posts (Technical, Accounts, Hindi), candidates must appear for Paper-1 AND a domain-specific Paper-2 on the same day. The salary structure is highly attractive, featuring a Central Government IDA (Industrial Dearness Allowance) pattern, taking the gross starting salary to approximately ₹40,000–₹45,000 per month. With no personal interview for Phase-II qualifiers, document verification is the only remaining step, making FCI AG-III a pure merit-based gateway to a lifelong PSU career.

Q1: Can I apply for the FCI AG-III exam in multiple zones simultaneously?
A1: No. According to strict FCI guidelines, a candidate can apply for the examination in only ONE Zone (either North, South, East, West, or North-East) and for only ONE specific post within that zone. Multiple applications will lead to instant disqualification.
Q2: What is the difference between AG-III (General) and AG-III (Depot)?
A2: AG-III (General) is primarily a desk job focusing on administrative, HR, and vigilance tasks in regional/district offices. AG-III (Depot) is a field-operational job where you will be posted at FCI godowns, responsible for maintaining inventory, quality checks, and managing the loading/unloading of food grains. Both require a standard Bachelor's degree.
Q3: Is there a typing requirement for the AG-III post?
A3: For the standard AG-III (General), (Depot), (Technical), and (Accounts) posts, there is no typing test. However, if you specifically apply for the AG-III (Hindi) post, typing speed in Hindi and translation skills are mandatory.
Q4: Are the marks obtained in Phase-I added to the final merit list?
A4: No. Phase-I is strictly qualifying in nature. Its sole purpose is to filter out the massive crowd. The final merit list and job allocation are determined entirely by your performance in the Phase-II examination.

Phase-I (Common for all posts):

English Language (25 Qs): Reading Comprehension, Cloze Test, Fillers, Error Spotting.

Reasoning Ability (25 Qs): Puzzles, Seating Arrangements, Direction Sense, Blood Relations, Syllogism.

Numerical Aptitude (25 Qs): Simplification, Data Interpretation, Number Series, Arithmetic (Time & Work, Profit/Loss, etc.).

General Studies (25 Qs): History, Geography, Economy, General Science (upto 8th standard level) and Current Affairs.

Phase-II (Paper-1 for General/Depot):

English Language (25 Qs), Reasoning Intelligence (25 Qs), Numerical Aptitude (25 Qs).

General Studies (45 Qs): Indian History, Indian Economy, Geography & General Science (up to 10th standard level), Current Affairs, and Computer Awareness.

(Note: AG-III Technical/Accounts require Paper-2 which includes degree-level Agriculture/Botany/Zoology/Chemistry or Commerce/Accounting respectively).
