About Jai Narain Vyas University
Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU), located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is a prominent public university established in 1962. Originally known as the University of Jodhpur, it was formed by integrating four government colleges: MBM Engineering College, Jaswant College, S.M.K. College, and K.N. College for Women . Inaugurated by then-President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on August 24, 1962, the university was envisioned as a center for holistic education and research. Renamed in 1992 to honor Jai Narayan Vyas, a notable freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan , JNVU stands as the only residential university in the state, primarily serving the educational needs of western Rajasthan. Situated in the Thar Desert, the university focuses its research on regional heritage, societal issues, and desert-related challenges, including studies pertinent to the border areas adjoining Pakistan . With a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across faculties such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, and Engineering, JNVU is affiliated with the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) .
