Scholarship Exam Details

The L&T Build India Scholarship is a unique "industry-academia" collaboration between Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and premier institutes like IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and NIT Surathkal. It targets final-year civil and electrical engineering students who wish to pursue an M.Tech in Construction Technology and Management. This is a fully-funded sponsorship; L&T pays the entire tuition fee to the IIT/NIT and provides a monthly stipend of ₹13,400 to the student. The most significant highlight is that upon successful completion of the M.Tech, scholars are absorbed into L&T as regular employees with a competitive package. It is essentially a "Job-plus-Degree" scholarship, making it one of the most career-securing awards in the engineering sector. The selection process involves a national-level online test followed by a technical and HR interview conducted by L&T’s leadership team.

Q1: Is there a service bond associated with this scholarship?
A1: Yes, because L&T invests heavily in your education and provides a guaranteed job, there is a mandatory service bond. After completing the M.Tech, you are required to serve the company for a minimum of two years. If you leave early, you may be required to repay the scholarship amount.
Q2: Who is eligible in terms of CGPA?
A2: The academic cutoff is quite high. You need a minimum of 70% or 7.0 CGPA throughout your B.E./B.Tech. There should be no standing backlogs at the time of application.
Q3: Does a GATE score matter for this scholarship?
A3: While GATE is the standard for IIT admissions, L&T conducts its own separate entrance exam. However, having a good GATE score is usually a strong indicator that you will do well in the L&T test, which is similar in difficulty.
Q4: Which engineering branches can apply?
A4: istorically, this is strictly for Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering students. Other branches like Mechanical or CS are generally not eligible for the Build India scheme.
