Scholarship Exam Details

The Atul Maheshwari Scholarship is a unique private initiative by the Amar Ujala Foundation that specifically bridges the gap for students in small towns and rural areas. Unlike many corporate scholarships that favor elite English-medium schools, this scholarship is the "Hope of the Heartland," focusing on students from State Boards. In 2026, it offers financial support to students in classes 9 to 12 whose family annual income is below ₹2 Lakhs. The scholarship provides an amount ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹50,000, which often covers the entire year's school fees, books, and transportation for a rural student. The selection is done through a transparent, competitive written exam held across North India. This scholarship is highly valued because it empowers students who have the intellect but lack the financial resources to compete with their urban counterparts. It is a merit-cum-means award that has changed the lives of thousands of students in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Uttarakhand.

Q1: Can a student with a "Gap Year" apply for this scholarship?
A1: No, the scholarship is strictly for regular students currently enrolled in classes 9, 10, 11, or 12. If a student has dropped a year or is appearing as a "Private" candidate for boards, they are generally not eligible.
Q2: Is the scholarship exam conducted in Hindi or English?
A2: Since the target audience is primarily State Board students in North India, the exam is conducted in Hindi. This is a significant advantage for students who are brilliant in their subjects but struggle with the high-level English found in exams like ANTHE or NTSE.
Q3: What proof of "BPL" status or low income is required?
A3: Applicants must provide an Income Certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer (Tehsildar or above). A BPL (Below Poverty Line) card or a Ration Card showing the category is also accepted as supporting evidence. The Foundation conducts physical verification for shortlisted candidates to ensure the funds reach the truly needy.
Q4: Are there any specific "Character" requirements for selection?
A4: Yes, being a community-focused scholarship, the foundation often looks at the student's behavior and participation in social activities. Students with a record of helping their community or participating in school leadership are given an edge during the final selection interview
