Scholarship Exam Details

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA) is the definitive gateway to India’s vast network of Agricultural Universities. In 2026, as India pushes for "Agri-Tech" sovereignty, this exam holds immense value. While it serves as an entrance test for 75+ universities, its primary financial highlight is the National Talent Scholarship (NTS). This scholarship is uniquely designed to promote "National Integration" in education; students are eligible for a monthly stipend of ₹3,000 only if they secure admission in a university located outside their home state. This encourages students from Bihar to study in Tamil Nadu or Punjab, fostering a cross-pollination of agricultural techniques and cultural understanding. The NTA conducts this in a sophisticated Computer Based Test (CBT) format. Beyond the stipend, ICAR scholars receive priority for high-ranking positions in the NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), seed technology corporations, and international research fellowships in food security.

Q1: What are the strict eligibility criteria for the NTS stipend in 2026?
A1: To receive the National Talent Scholarship, a candidate must first clear the ICAR AIEEA (UG) with a high rank and then participate in the central counseling process. The most critical rule is that the student must choose and be allotted a seat in an Agricultural University that is NOT in their state of domicile. If a student stays in their home state for studies, they forfeit the NTS stipend but keep the seat.
Q2: Is there an upper age limit for applicants?
A2: As per current regulations, the minimum age must be 16 years as of August 31st of the admission year. There is generally no upper age limit for the UG entrance, but individual state universities may have specific age caps for their specific reservation categories.
Q3: Can students with a Vocational Agriculture background apply?
A3: Yes, ICAR allows students who have completed 10+2 with Agriculture as a vocational subject, provided they have also cleared the core science subjects (Physics and Chemistry). This is a great pathway for students from rural vocational schools to enter mainstream research.
Q4: What is the duration and renewal process of the scholarship?
A4: The scholarship is awarded for the entire duration of the 4-year degree program. However, it is not "automatic." Students must maintain a minimum OGPA (Overall Grade Point Average) of 7.0 out of 10.0 and must not fail in any subject. If a student fails a semester or their grades drop significantly, the scholarship is suspended until they clear the backlogs.
