Competitive Exam Details

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) Junior Engineer (JE) and Stenographer Grade-II examinations are highly specialized, elite-level recruitment drives operating within one of the world's largest food security and supply chain organizations. These roles are critical to FCI's infrastructure. The Junior Engineers oversee the massive construction, electrical maintenance, and structural integrity of FCI's vast network of silos and storage godowns across India. The Stenographers provide highly confidential, rapid administrative and secretarial support to the upper-echelon management. Both posts offer an incredibly secure Central PSU career, a fantastic Category-III starting salary structure (with high IDA and perks), and zonal-level postings.

Because FCI is geographically massive, recruitment is strictly Zonal (North, South, East, West, North-East). The selection process is a meticulous two-phase online framework managed by IBPS. Phase-I is a common screening sprint for all Category-III posts. It consists of 100 questions in 60 minutes (English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, and General Studies up to 8th class level), enforced by strict 15-minute sectional timings. It serves only to shortlist candidates for Phase-II and does not impact final merit.

Phase-II is highly tailored to the specific profession. For Junior Engineers, Phase-II involves Paper-1 (a 120-question aptitude and deep GS test) and Paper-2 (a 60-question core engineering domain test). Both papers are conducted on the same day, and final merit is the aggregate of both. For Stenographer Grade-II candidates, Phase-II involves only Paper-3 (a 120-question test on English, Computer, and General Awareness). Crucially, Stenographer candidates who clear Paper-3 must undergo a rigorous Skill Test in typing and shorthand. With no personal interviews, these exams are pure merit-based gateways into the technical and administrative core of FCI.

Q1: Can a Diploma holder apply for the FCI Junior Engineer post?
A1: Yes. Candidates holding a Diploma in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering are fully eligible. However, Diploma holders must possess one year of relevant experience. Candidates holding a Degree (B.E./B.Tech) in the relevant engineering field are eligible to apply directly without any prior experience.
Q2: What is the exact typing and shorthand requirement for the Stenographer Grade-II post?
A2: Candidates applying for Stenographer Grade-II must possess a Bachelor's Degree along with an 'O' level qualification from DOEACC (or equivalent). Most importantly, they must demonstrate a speed of 40 words per minute (wpm) in typing and 80 wpm in English shorthand dictation during the skill test.
Q3: Are Phase-I marks counted for final selection for JE or Steno?
A3: No. Phase-I is strictly a qualifying screening examination designed to filter out the massive volume of applicants. The final merit list for JE is based on Phase-II (Paper 1 + Paper 2). The final merit for Stenographers is based on Phase-II (Paper 3), subject to qualifying the skill test.
Q4: Can I apply for the FCI exam in more than one Zone?
A4: No. According to FCI rules, a candidate can submit their application for only ONE specific Zone (North, South, East, West, or North-East) and for only ONE specific post code.

Phase-I (Common Screening): English Language (25 Qs), Reasoning Ability (25 Qs), Numerical Aptitude (25 Qs), General Studies (25 Qs - History, Geography, Economy, General Science up to 8th class, Current Affairs).

Phase-II (JE - Civil/Electrical/Mechanical): Paper-1 (90 mins): English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, and General Studies (up to 10th class level). Paper-2 (60 mins): Core Engineering. (e.g., Civil: Building Materials, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, RCC Designs. Electrical/Mech: Basic Electricity, Motors, Transformers, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics).

Phase-II (Stenographer Grade-II): Paper-3 (90 mins): General English (30 Qs), General Awareness (30 Qs), General Intelligence (30 Qs), Computer Awareness (30 Qs). Followed by a Skill Test (Dictation and Typing).
