Competitive Exam Details

The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB), formerly known as Vyapam, conducts the MP Police Constable recruitment. This is one of the most massive, anticipated, and highly competitive state police recruitment drives in central India, regularly attracting over 10 to 12 lakh (1-1.2 million) candidates for thousands of vacancies. Recruiting for Constable (General Duty) and Constable (Radio/Technical), the exam offers 10th and 12th-pass youth an incredibly secure, respected, and stable career in maintaining law and order across the vast districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Recently, the MP Police recruitment underwent a revolutionary structural change that has drastically altered preparation strategies. The selection process is now divided into two equally weighted phases: a Computer Based Test (CBT) worth 100 marks, and a Physical Proficiency Test (PPT) worth 100 marks. Previously, the physical test was merely qualifying. Now, physical fitness directly dictates your merit rank.

The CBT is a 120-minute online examination comprising 100 objective questions covering General Knowledge & Reasoning, Intellectual Ability & Mental Aptitude, and Science & Simple Arithmetic. An incredibly candidate-friendly feature of the MP Police CBT is the total absence of negative marking. Candidates who clear the written cut-off advance to the physical test. The PPT awards scaled marks out of 100 based on exact performance metrics in the 800-meter run, Long Jump, and Shot Put (e.g., running faster yields higher marks). The final merit list is an exact 50-50 aggregate of the written marks and physical marks, meaning an average student with elite physical athletic skills can easily outrank an academic topper.

Q1: Can candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh apply for the Constable exam?
A1: Yes, candidates from all over India can apply. However, they will be considered exclusively under the Unreserved (General) category. Furthermore, they will not receive any age relaxations or physical measurement relaxations granted to reserved categories holding an MP domicile.
Q2: What is the new marking system for the Physical Proficiency Test (PPT)?
A2: The physical test is no longer just "Pass/Fail". It carries 100 marks. You are awarded points based on exact timings and distances. For example, finishing the 800m run in 2 mins 4 seconds will give you 40/40 marks, while finishing it in 2 mins 45 seconds will give you much fewer marks. The same scaled marking applies to Long Jump and Shot Put.
Q3: Is there any negative marking in the written CBT?
A3: No. There is absolutely zero negative marking in the MP Police Constable written examination. Candidates are heavily advised to attempt all 100 questions within the 2-hour timeframe.
Q4: What is the height requirement for male and female candidates?
A4: Generally, the minimum height requirement for male candidates (UR/OBC/SC) is 168 cm, and for ST males it is 160 cm. For all female candidates across all categories, the minimum height requirement is 155 cm.
