The Food Corporation of India (FCI) Manager (Category II) examination is an elite, high-level recruitment drive designed to hire middle-management executives for one of the largest supply chain and food security PSUs in the world. Positioned above the Assistant Grade-III clerical cadre but below the Assistant General Manager (AGM) executive cadre, the FCI Manager serves as the crucial operational bridge. Managers in the General, Depot, and Movement cadres are responsible for massive logistical operations: overseeing railway rakes of food grains, managing vast storage depots, handling procurement from farmers at MSP, and coordinating state-wide PDS distribution. The role commands an exceptional starting basic pay of ₹40,000 (with gross salary often exceeding ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 with IDA allowances) and high administrative authority.
The recruitment is conducted on a Zonal basis (North, South, East, West, North-East), and candidates can apply for only one zone and one specific managerial post. The selection process is rigorous and multi-staged, consisting of Phase-I (Online Exam), Phase-II (Online Exam), and Phase-III (Personal Interview). Phase-I is a common screening test for all streams—a 60-minute, 100-question sprint testing English, Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, and General Studies with strict sectional timing.
Candidates who clear Phase-I advance to Phase-II, which dictates the core merit. For General, Depot, and Movement managers, Phase-II consists of a single 90-minute paper (Paper-I) covering advanced Aptitude, Reasoning, and deep General Studies. However, for specialized managers (Accounts, Technical, Civil/Electrical Engineering), candidates must take Paper-I and a highly specific Paper-II testing their core graduation domain (e.g., Accounting principles, Agricultural Science, or Structural Engineering). The marks from Phase-II and the Personal Interview are aggregated at a 90:10 ratio to produce the final merit list. Upon selection, candidates undergo a 6-month rigorous training period as Management Trainees (MT) before being absorbed as full-time Managers.
