Competitive Exam Details

The Intelligence Bureau Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (IB ACIO) Grade-II/Executive examination is one of the most prestigious, secretive, and highly sought-after recruitment drives conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. For candidates seeking a thrilling, adventurous, and impactful career beyond the confines of a traditional desk job, the Intelligence Bureau offers an unparalleled opportunity to serve at the forefront of India's internal security and counter-intelligence operations. The ACIO Grade-II is a premier General Central Service, Group ‘C’ (Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial) post, but it commands the respect, operational authority, and salary structure (Level 7 of the 7th CPC) equivalent to many Group B gazetted roles.

The recruitment process is fiercely competitive and designed to filter out candidates through a rigorous three-tier selection mechanism. Tier-I is an objective-type Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 100 questions divided into five sections: Current Affairs, General Studies, Numerical Aptitude, Reasoning/Logical Aptitude, and English Language. Candidates are given only 60 minutes, making this an extreme test of speed, precision, and broad awareness, with a strict negative marking of 1/4th for every incorrect answer.

Those who clear the high cut-offs of Tier-I move to Tier-II, which is a descriptive written examination worth 50 marks. This paper tests a candidate’s analytical and writing capabilities through an Essay (30 marks) and English Comprehension & Précis writing (20 marks). It is designed to ensure that future intelligence officers can articulate complex field reports clearly and concisely. Finally, candidates who clear both written tiers face the daunting Tier-III Interview (100 marks). The IB interview is notoriously psychological and profound, testing a candidate's situational awareness, emotional intelligence, geopolitical knowledge, and absolute discretion. Serving as an IB ACIO involves pan-India transfer liability, field operations, intelligence gathering, and an immense sense of silent patriotism, as the work is strictly classified.
