Competitive Exam Details

The Staff Selection Commission Central Police Organization (SSC CPO) examination is a premier, highly respected recruitment drive designed specifically for dynamic graduates who aspire to wear the uniform and serve the nation in frontline security, intelligence, and law enforcement roles. This exam serves as the sole gateway for recruiting Sub-Inspectors (SI) in the prestigious Delhi Police, as well as Sub-Inspectors (General Duty) in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). These forces include the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). It offers a remarkable blend of civic authority, immense social respect, a robust Level 6 salary structure, and an adventurous, fast-paced career profile.

The selection mechanism for SSC CPO is famously grueling, designed to test both the intellectual capabilities and the raw physical endurance of the candidates over four distinct, challenging phases. Phase 1 is Paper-I, a 2-hour Computer Based Test comprising 200 questions equally divided across General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Phase 2 strictly evaluates physical fitness through a Physical Standard Test (PST) and a Physical Endurance Test (PET). The PET is notoriously tough, including events like a 1.6 km run in 6.5 minutes, a 100-meter sprint, long jump, high jump, and shot put.

Phase 3 is Paper-II, which uniquely tests only the candidate's mastery of the English Language and Comprehension (200 questions to be answered in 2 hours), underscoring the vital importance of communication and drafting skills in modern administrative policing. Finally, Phase 4 is the Detailed Medical Examination (DME) to ensure candidates are completely fit for combat and security duties. For aspirants, the strategic focus must remain dual-threaded: immense academic preparation combined with months of disciplined physical training. The final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate marks of Paper-I and Paper-II, but failing the physical or medical stages at any point renders the academic scores useless. The SSC CPO exam is perfect for disciplined individuals looking for a fast-tracked entry into officer-equivalent ranks in India's paramilitary infrastructure.
